Day 11: Car shopping, rain, rain, and more rain

Thursday 29 September

I was woken this morning the by the sound of torrential rain, and worried that B would be getting a soaking in the tent. Luckily, I wasn’t too worried, so I managed to doze for a bit longer. It turned out that B hadn’t noticed the rain and had slept through it.

The downpour set the tone for the rest of the day, though, and it rained pretty constantly all day.

N & I popped out to look at a few cars that we’d seen online, and ended up test driving, and falling in love with, a car. It’s a Japanese import, so the sat nav is all in Japanese, and all of the dials and switches are in different places to what we are used to. But still, it’s very lovely. We also looked at a few more, and were impressed more by the other sales guy’s patter than his cars (“You girls look at this and think…”, “I know you girls, you love…” etc etc etc). The only reason he didn’t get a clip round the ear is that he was driving, and it was scary enough as it was, without adding the distraction of a minor assault.

On the way home we bought new (massive) monitors and keyboards to enable us to do some work next week. I’m particularly impressed with my keyboard, as it lights up like a Christmas Tree:

The picture doesn’t really do it justice. It’s so pretty! But I’m struggling with the @ and ” keys, because they’ve swapped places, and I keep forgetting. The \ is also in a weird place.

Once we got home, we did some more research (aka “googling”) on our car of choice, to find that we still like it, and it is a good price. So we’re going to head back tomorrow to have another look at it, and play with all of the flaps, gadgets and movable parts.

And that’s pretty much it for the day – it’s been very quiet due to the endless rain.

I thought you might be interested in seeing pictures of the van with the fallen-off wheel, which is currently being fixed. Apparently this is the second ball-joint in a row that’s failed, so they’ve rather sensibly decided to switch to a different manufacturer for the replacement. Just to be on the safe side.

Yup. Wheel has definitely fallen off.

Apparently this is normal behaviour for loading a van onto a lorry. You shouldn’t be worried about the fact that the front wheels are up in the air, at all. Nope. Nothing to see here.

Yeah, that’s going to need a bit of work before you can drive it again.

And finally, N is being a social butterfly tonight, and has headed off to a local meetup to meet some new people and talk about solar somethings. You can tell I was paying a great deal of attention when he told me about it, can’t you?

Woohoo, I actually managed to do a daily post on the same day, rather than the next morning. Or several days later. Yay, me!

Night then.
